Joint pain and muscle soreness is part of the process of growing old. People would spend hundreds on over-the-counter medication and supplements to help alleviate their pain. However, there are tons of natural options available that’s cheaper and more effective. In this article, we will discuss these various natural remedies.
Base Salve Formula
A base salve formula is a quick and easy way to create a concoction to combat joint pain. While having a much thinner consistency, this formula can be used more as a massage oil and can work wonders on large areas. Here are the ingredients: ½ cup of Coconut Oil, ½ cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 2 ½ tablespoons of Beeswax Pellets.
Measure out the ingredients in a measuring cup and place them in a heatproof glass jar. Place the jar with the ingredients into a pan that’s filled with water such that it is completely submerged. Set the pan to low heat and allow the ingredients in the jar to be completely melted.
Remove the jar from the pan and pour the warm oil into ointment jars. This would produce up to 1 cup of base salve.
Muscle And Joint Rub Formula
Here are the ingredients: 30 drops of Wintergreen Essential Oil, 2 ounces of Base Salve.
Using a measuring cup, measure about 2 ounces of base salve and place them into a two-ounce jar. Heat the contents in the jar till it liquefies. Around 45 seconds would be sufficient.
Allow the base salve to cool such that it is cool enough to touch (or below 140 degrees). After verifying that the base salve is cool enough, add 30 drops of Wintergreen essential oil to the jar. Using a spoon, stir the mixture until it becomes a homogenous mixture. Replace the lid on the jar and shake the mixture if you have to.
Take a good portion of the formula and apply them over your aching muscles or joint pain. Since it is absorbed very quickly, the salve would provide almost immediate relief. It is important to take note that Wintergreen essential oil should be avoided by those who’s using blood thinners on the regular basis and by children.
Essential Oils to Relieve Pain
With a fresh and minty smell, Wintergreen can be found in many of the candies, toothpastes and mouthwashes that we use. One of the active ingredients in Wintergreen oil is methyl salicylate, which provides much of the anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties that the oil has. However, It is important to avoid using this essential oil on children, pregnant women and those who are using blood-thinning medication.
Another oil that you could use to replace the Wintergreen oil would be Geranium essential oil. With the anti-inflammatory properties of Geranium, it can also work well in relieving your muscle or joint pain.
