Are you one of those parents who feel like your child is unclean that is why she is getting head lice? Do you also think that the lice can possibly carry disease with them? Well, you should not think this way. Do not be frazzled when your son or daughter has a lice because you can simply comb the nymphs and nits away. You can also use home treatments such as essential oils for head lice to get rid of the problem right away.

Smother the Hair with Oil

You can smother the hair using either olive or almond oil. Some also say it will be helpful to coat the comb with the oil instead of applying it directly on the hair. You can experiment on which of these two methods will work for you. After applying the oil over the hair (or the comb), separate the hair into small sections, making sure you secure each section with a clip. Comb each section until there are no nits left. Once done, you can rinse the hair with the regular shampoo.

You can do this daily for a week then make sure you check your child’s hair every night for two weeks to ensure that the lice are all gone. Make sure you wash the towels and clean the comb every after use to prevent the lice from spreading further. Use running water set to warm in order to clean the comb.

Treating Lice Using Essential Oils

Apart from the first method mentioned above, you can also use a combination of essential oils to get rid of head lice. Of course, this process also comes with the usual combing of nits and nymphs. Take note though that you also have to take extra caution when using essential oils. You can rule out any allergies, a rare occurrence, by putting a small drop of the oil at the back of your child’s hand.

Which Essential Oils Can You Use as Treatment for Head Lice?

Tea tree, lavender, neem, and clove are the top four choices. This is followed by eucalyptus, aniseed, cinnamon, and red thyme. Peppermint and nutmeg wraps up the list of essentials oils you can use in order to treat head lice at home. Make sure that you have tested all these oils on your child’s skin. If your child is allergic to tea tree, proceed to lavender and so on and so forth.

How to Use Essential Oils to Treat Head Lice

You will need a carrier oil in order to concoct this treatment. Mix two ounces of olive oil or jojoba oil with 15 to 20 drops of the essential oils mentioned herein.
