DIY Incense Sticks
Why not consider giving dad home-made incense sticks. You will just need a set of our unscented incense sticks and you can use the essential oils you already have at home or look at Plant Guru’s fantastic range for more inspiration. As a starter Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Patchouli, Petitgrain are all favorites with the men and they aren’t too sweet.
To make the sticks you will need:
- Essential oils of choice
- 3 teaspoon Propylene Glycol
- Rubber gloves
- Long rectangular container big enough to fit your incense sticks
- Unscented incense sticks
- Plastic wrap
- Cooling rack
- Ziploc bag
Place the 3 teaspoons of propylene glycol and 2 teaspoons of one essential oil into the rectangular container. If you are blending a few different oils, then you will need a few drops of each. Make sure you do not put the teaspoon with the essential oil on a surface as it will mark it. Stir the mixture well. Place a batch of no more than 10 incense sticks in the mixture and ensure they are all coated in the mixture. Cover the container with the plastic wrap to prevent evaporation and allow the sticks to soak overnight. The following day remove the sticks from the mixture and allow to dry. You can put on a cooling rack to do this, but make sure the surface underneath is protected from any excess dripping oils. Make sure they dry away from direct sunlight for 24 hours. They may take a few days to completely dry. When ready you can place them in the Ziploc bag and tie a ribbon around.
