It is very difficult for parents to see their young ones sick. While others resort to over-the-counter solutions which promise to provide relief for the discomfort, most of these are unsafe and not recommended for little kids. Think of using natural remedies instead. Along this line, you will discover that there are essential oils for kid’s fever. Are they safe treatments? Are there do’s and don’ts when using them? All these questions will be answered below.

Essential Oils for Fever Symptoms

More often than not, fever is accompanied by some other symptoms which also need treatment. There are certain types of essential oils that can be used when treating these accompanying symptoms. Like when the child has a cold while having fever, for instance. Among the more popular and safe options are lemon essential oil, tea tree essential oil, and lavender oil. Diffuse two drops of any of these oils during daytime or at bedtime. You can also mix a drop of any of these essential oils with a tablespoon of carrier oil then massage it to the chest for immediate cold relief.

In case the child is coughing, it will be good to mix a drop of lavender essential oil to a tablespoon of carrier oil. This can be rubbed over the chest area for immediate relief. For those who have fever due to teething, mixing a drop of Roman chamomile oil with a tablespoon of carrier oil is good. Get a small amount and massage it externally on the face along the jaw line.

Essential Oils for Kid’s Fever

Aside from treating the symptoms of fever, like the ones mentioned above, you can also treat fever itself using essential oils. All you need to do is mix a drop of lavender oil with a tablespoon of carrier oil. Massage a small amount from the mixture onto the soles of the feet, at the nape, and behind the ears. Once you are done, you must cover your kid’s fee with socks.

Keeping Essential Oils Safe for Use for Kids

Essential oils are proven to treat fever and its accompanying symptoms. Note, however, that in all the treatments mentioned above, it has been recommended that the essential oil must be mixed with a carrier oil. Coconut oil is the best carrier oil to use with all the aforementioned treatments. Why do you need a carrier oil? Essential oils are photosensitive, hence, they need to be diluted to a carrier oil. Otherwise, your child can have a rash or suffer from skin pigmentation.

Other Things to Remember When Treating Kid’s Fever with Essential Oils

Remember never to use citrus oils that are exposed to direct sunlight. You can substitute coconut oil with pure virgin olive oil, just in case you do not have any of the former available in your home. If you plan of adding drops of the oil to your kid’s bath, you must use an unscented bath gel base. This can act as a better dispersing agent for your essential oil. Never use adulterated or synthetic oils.
