Though winter may be right around the corner, in some parts of the world, warm, tropical climates mean biting insects like mosquitos all year round. Especially jungles and wooded camping areas. For this very reason, you are about to embark on the briefest of journeys that will put you well on your way to being able to thumb your nose at those pesky pests – no matter what time of year. It’s a convenient DIY anti-itch stick.

Paradise Lost – Well, Almost!

Picture it… a serene, beautiful forest clearing or a tropical jungle setting. The sun is slowly going down on the horizon, the cold beers from the cooler (or pina coladas) are flowing, and the mosquitos (unbeknownst to you) are feasting. When you get back to your tent you suddenly realize how itchy and scratchy you’re starting to feel. Those darn bugs! One sure way to ruin a romantic, or just peaceful, evening is to be furiously scratching in all the wrong places. (As maddening as itchy mosquito bites are, there is no “right” place, truth be told.)

What to do?

Never Fear – Your DIY Ant-Itch Stick Is Here

These days, many individuals have discovered better living through essential oils. And if you haven’t, it’s high time you do. This anti-itch stick is just one use for your essential oil collection. Keep one in your beach bag, one in your purse, one in the bedside table… you get the idea. Here’s how to go about making your very own mosquito defying anti-itch stick.

DIY Anti-Itch Stick Essentials

These are the essential oils and other ingredients that you’re going to need in order to complete this little project:

  • Six lip balm tubes
  • Six drops of helichrysum
  • Eight drops lavender
  • Eight drops tea tree
  • 4 oz. beeswax
  • 2 oz. almond carrier oil
  • 2 oz. jojoba carrier oil (some people choose to infuse this with peppermint)

Time To Put It All Together

In a double boiler, melt your beeswax. Then into the melted beeswax, mix your carrier oils on a low heat. After turning off the heat, stir in all of your essential oils. Once mixed thoroughly, carefully pour the mixture into the lip balm tubes. In a cool place, allow the contents to harden completely before placing the cap on the tube.

Now What?

Design your own cute little labels with a picture, appropriate “product” name, and the ingredients suitable for gluing onto the outside of the tubes. Now you’re all set to give these handy dandy little gems out to all of your camping friends. Trust us… you’ll be the huge hit of the camp-fire party or the super sensation of the jungle tour after-party. If you own your own little boutique, you might even consider putting a box of these at the check-out counter as your soon-to-be best-selling impulse item.
