If you can’t find the fragrant soap you want, why not create it yourself? You can have great fun creating the following fragrant soaps or try mixing your own essential oils to get your perfect blend.

The Main Ingredients

No matter what essential oils you choose to add to your soap, you will need a soap base. These are quite inexpensive to buy, and you can buy a small amount to get you started, moving to larger quantities once you get your confidence up. These are the main ingredients:

  • Melt and pour soap
  • Soap mold (bought or you can use a small plastic Tupperware dish or chocolate silicone mold)
  • Plastic mixing spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cup
  • Coloring if required
  • Essential oils of choice

How To Make The Soap

In each case you will need to melt the soap base in the measuring cup. If you cut it up into chunks it will melt more easily and quickly. You can do this in the microwave. Once it has melted add any colorings and essential oils, or any other additives you are using such as cocoa butter, shea butter, lavender heads, etc., and mix well. Add to the mold and allow to set. You can spray the top with alcohol to prevent bubbles from forming, but this isn’t essential, especially if the soap is just for you.

Allow the soap to set in a cool place. It will take a few hours to set properly so you can go do something else whilst this is happening. You can even leave it overnight if you prefer. Once it has set you need to just pop the soap out of the mold. You should wrap it in plastic to store it away if you are not using it straight away. Here are a few great recipes to get you started:
